While Bitcoin struggles to hold its footing ahead of the FOMC decision, Ethereum is quietly putting together a case for relative strength. ETH is trading at $1,914, up 1.3% over the past 24 hours, and has largely held above the psychologically important $1,900 level throughout the recent turbulence. This resilience isn’t random — it reflects a maturing ecosystem whose growth metrics continue to improve regardless of short-term price action.

Ethereum’s decentralized finance ecosystem remains the engine room of its value proposition. Total value locked across DeFi protocols stands at approximately $85 billion, holding steady through the recent volatility and signaling that capital isn’t fleeing the ecosystem. Lido, the dominant liquid staking protocol, now manages over $25 billion in staked ETH alone. Aave and Uniswap — the lending and trading pillars of DeFi — continue to process billions in daily volume with minimal disruption. Daily active addresses across the Ethereum ecosystem have actually increased 3.5% over the past two weeks, a counterintuitive but encouraging data point.

The Layer-2 story deserves particular attention. Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base collectively processed 18% more transactions in July than in June, pushing the Ethereum ecosystem’s total throughput to all-time highs. Coinbase’s Base network has emerged as a breakout performer, routinely handling nearly one million transactions per day and attracting a new cohort of retail users who might otherwise find mainnet fees prohibitive. This scaling progress is crucial — it demonstrates that Ethereum’s rollup-centric roadmap is delivering real results at a time when competing Layer-1 chains are vying for developer mindshare.

Staking continues to be a magnet for long-term capital. Total staked ETH now exceeds 38 million, representing roughly 31% of the circulating supply. Despite the Shanghai upgrade enabling withdrawals, net staking flows remain positive, suggesting that the 4-5% annual yield, combined with modest price appreciation expectations, is compelling enough to keep capital locked. The staking ratio is fast approaching levels where liquidity concerns for the underlying asset may begin to surface — a high-quality problem, but one worth monitoring.

From a price perspective, ETH has established a sturdy support zone between $1,800 and $1,850. If the macro environment improves post-FOMC, Ethereum is well-positioned to lead any crypto recovery, with $2,000 as the immediate target and $2,200 as a realistic medium-term objective. However, a broader risk-off move could push ETH back toward $1,700, where both technical support and staking-related demand would likely provide a floor.
