Ethereum Leads Crypto Rally with 2% Gain as ETH ETFs Attract $58M Inflow and Institutional Interest Grows

Ethereum emerged as the top performer among major cryptocurrencies on July 16, rising 2.07% to outperform Bitcoin which remained relatively flat. The strong performance was driven by two key factors: improved risk appetite following softer US inflation data, and continued inflows into spot Ethereum ETFs.

Ethereum ETFs recorded $58 million in net inflows on July 15, with BlackRock’sETHA product accounting for the majority. Since their launch, Ethereum ETFs have seen steady institutional interest, though initial flows have been more modest compared to the Bitcoin ETF launch. Morgan Stanley’s updated S-1 filing naming Coinbase as the custodian for its ETH ETF represents another milestone in Ethereum’s institutional adoption journey.

The Ethereum ecosystem continues to show robust fundamentals. Layer 2 scaling solutions including Arbitrum and Optimism are seeing sustained growth in daily active users and transaction volumes. Total Value Locked (TVL) in Ethereum-based DeFi protocols has been steadily recovering, indicating sustained interest in decentralized finance applications.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, continues to consolidate around the $64,734 level. Spot BTC ETF inflows of $180 million on July 15 extended the recent positive trend, though analysts remain cautious about calling a definitive reversal after June’s outflows.

Japan’s reclassification of cryptocurrencies as financial assets with reduced tax rates was widely viewed as a positive catalyst for the Asian crypto market. The policy change could encourage more Japanese investors to allocate capital to digital assets.

Citigroup’s downward revision of its Bitcoin price target from $112,000 to $82,000 over the next 12 months highlighted persistent headwinds. The bank cited June’s ETF outflows and rising geopolitical tensions, particularly the escalating US-Iran conflict, as key factors weighing on the crypto outlook.

From a technical analysis standpoint, Bitcoin’s support level sits at $62,500 with resistance at $68,000. Ethereum finds support at $3,200 and faces resistance at $3,600. Investors are advised to maintain disciplined risk management given the uncertain macro backdrop and geopolitical risks.
